Robinson is the United States’ all-time leader in Olympic history in career points (270), rebounds (124), and blocked shots (34). Gary Bell pitched for three Major League All-Star teams, 1960, 1966, and 1968, and led the American League in 1962 with nine relief victories. Bell was a member of the Boston Red Sox in the 1967 World Series. Fellow inductee Joel Horlen is the only baseball player to have won a Pony League World Series, a College World Series, and a professional World Series. He is the only San Antonian to ever pitch a no-hitter in the major leagues. A 1961 graduate of South San High School, Robert Zamora played on sports teams that won three state baseball titles and one state basketball crown. After graduating from Baylor, Zamora returned to coach baseball at his Alma Mater. During his tenure, South San won eight straight district titles, four city championships, and had two state-tournament appearances (’75 and ’76). Betty Dodd was the first San Antonian to join the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour, joining the tour in just its second year of operation. Dodd claimed the San Antonio Women’s City Championship from 1941 to 1951, the Oak Hills Club Championship in 1951, and the Brackenridge Club Championship in 1950-51. She died July 8, 1993. The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute & Silent Auction is sponsored by the San Antonio Sports Foundation, the City of San Antonio, and the San Antonio Express-News. Badminton Coach Nets Champions
Kampol’s goal is to send a homegrown, inner-city athlete to the Olympics, and to achieve a national reputation so that parents will send their kids to San Antonio because it has the “elite” badminton program in the country. San Antonio currently has the nation's only institutionalized elementary school badminton league. To learn more about Sports Foundation youth programs, contact Alma Striker at (210) 820-2113. |

"The Sports Foundation and its volunteers serve the community by attracting major marquee sporting events such as the Final Four and Big 12 Soccer Championship which provide significant social and economic benefit to the greater San Antonio area. Its "Dreams for Youth" program offers hundreds of our young people exposure to Olympic-style sports training and competition that they would otherwise never have the opportunity to participate in. Its Diamond Shamrock Go!Kids Challenge is an exciting new initiative that inspires young people to make regular activity a part of their daily lives. Supporting the Foundation, through individual or corporate contributions, is key to keeping San Antonio competitive in attracting big time events and enhancing the Sports Foundation's youth programs to reach more children in its effort to develop their skill level, competitive spirit and self confidence."
