A Special Thanks...

I am reminded each year, especially after a successful San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute, that we are so fortunate to enjoy strong, ongoing relationships with so many individuals, companies and organizations throughout the community.

To our Hall of Fame committee chairs—the Sports Foundation board of directors and staff salute you and thank you once again for your devotion and the countless hours that you give to prepare for such an affair.

Our 2003 SALUTE award winner, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, has contributed not only to the birth, but the continual growth of the Foundation. Chamber president Joe Krier and I personally thank his staff, board, and members who have served in many roles to support our ongoing efforts. They are the example of a “service” organization putting San Antonio, its businesses and citizens before their own needs as a group. The Foundation thanks you for coming to the “aid of the party,” especially the sports efforts, time and time again. Thanks for your leadership, Joe Krier!

We thank all of our supporters and members for helping to develop the events and youth programs that have led to our growth and success. Many of you will receive a visit from us soon as we work to secure your ongoing support. Please be willing to give us the honest feedback we need to better serve the community.

San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute

More than 900 people were on hand to honor this year's inductees at the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute, Friday, February 7, at the Alamodome. Linus Baer, Warren McVea, John Miles, Johnny Moore and Demetria Sance were officially inducted as the Class of 2003. Also recognized were high school trackster Marshevet Hooker and NFL standout Priest Holmes as the San Antonio Express-News Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year.

The Sports Foundation's Dreams for Youth (DFY) program benefited from the proceeds of the Tribute and silent auction, and DFY athletes were everywhere -- demonstrating their athletic abilities prior to the dinner, greeting guests and posing for pictures with them and sharing their stories of success from the podium.

While total funds are still being tabulated, the results are in for the silent auction. More than $61,000 was raised for DFY, and lots of people went home with terrific finds. Thanks to all who made the 2003 San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame such a wonderful success!
