Dreams for Youth Fencing Club

The sport of fencing is fast and athletic. Modern fencing requires the courage, stamina, speed and agility of a fighter combined with the brains to out-think an opponent. It develops and builds confidence in physical and mental skills, and often appeals to young people not interested in team sports. Our youth classes are offered for all age levels and for those who both wish to seriously compete or who simply want to fence for fun.

What Our Fencing Club Offers:

  • Beginners Epee, Foil, and Sabre
  • Advanced Epee, Foil, and Sabre
  • Increased flexibility
  • Strength and conditioning training
  • Mental focus and clarity
  • Choice of a competitive program or a recreational program
  • Full use of our fencing equipment
  • Full electric, tournament style fencing strips
  • Available strength and conditioning room for our competitive athletes

Sports Training

Beginner DFY Fencing (Ages: 7 yrs. +):
General motor movement is developed along with fencing “basics.” Flexibility, strength, balance, and spatial awareness for sport fencing is taught and developed through the use of sport specific games and group drills. Tactical awareness is introduced through on-strip coaching and one-on-one plastron instruction. Participation in local and regional competitions will also be encouraged.

Advanced DFY Fencing (Ages: 13 yrs. +):
The children participating in the advanced class train to compete in regional competition, with qualifying for national events a specific goal. Training includes physical conditioning, flexibility, and overall fitness, as well as advanced fencing skills needed for competing. Extensive electrical bouting is done with on-strip coaching to develop tactical awareness and confidence. Children in the Advanced DFY fencing class will periodically receive short one-on-one personal lessons to fine-tune their movements and actions.
