CHARITABLE GIVING POINTS
Three San Antonio charities will be the beneficiaries of items by participating company teams, with points being awarded towards the championship. Haven For Hope, San Antonio Blood Bank and the San Antonio Food Bank will all be accepting and recording donations from March 1 through May 11, 2012. Each charity will rank the participating teams, within their respective divisions, in order of their donated amounts, after which San Antonio Sports will award points towards the championships.
The winning team in each division will receive 50 points, 45 points for second place, 40 for third, down to 5 points for all remaining donors. If a charity determines that two or more companies are tied for any places other than first, then the points for those places will be added and divided equally among the tied teams.
MORE ABOUT THE CHARITIES
San Antonio Food Bank
Visit their website.
The mission of the San Antonio Food Bank is to fight hunger in Southwest Texas through food distribution, programs, education and advocacy.
The San Antonio Food Bank (SAFB) is a non-profit organization that serves as a clearinghouse by receiving and storing truckloads of donated food, produce, and other grocery products. SAFB distributes these items in manageable quantities to over 500 service agencies that help people in need.
Register your food drive and specify San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup. You can find information and the registration form at http://www.safoodbank.org/index.php/get-involved/donate-food/food-and-fund-drives
Collecting Food:
Printing paper boxes work really well for Food and Fund Drives. You can go to local copy/print shops and ask for the boxes. They are sturdy and still manageable when filled with food, plus you can have fun and decorate them.
The San Antonio Food Bank can provide barrels for food collection. We do ask FFD organizers to limit barrel requests to large food drive events where more than one barrel is necessary. This keeps our transportation costs down. Delivering collected donations also helps us keep overhead costs low PLUS you can get a tour of the SAFB when you schedule your drop off and get a chance to see your donation in action!
Schedule barrel delivery/pick-ups or food drop-offs:
Contact Events Coordinator, Martina Brittingham, to swap barrels during the drive or pick up barrels after the end of the drive. Our drivers make pick-ups and deliveries between 9am and 3pm, Monday through Friday. Please call at least 48 hours in advance. Please note that we cannot assure a specific time of barrel drop off or pick up. Transportation request may be subject to change based on weather/driver availability. If barrels were not used, you can schedule a drop off at the SAFB. Food can be dropped off Monday.

Participating companies can:
- Host a blood drive between March 1 and May 11, 2012 at its location.
- Send employees to donate at one of six neighborhood donor rooms between March 1 and May 11.
Hosting a Blood Drive*:
- Each company will need to designate a Blood Drive Coordinator.
- The Coordinator will need to call the Donor Recruitment Department at 1-800-292-5534 ext. 1304 to set up a blood drive.
- The Coordinator will work with a Recruiter to discuss date, time, location and promotional materials to display at the place of business.
- Blood drives must be set up 4-6 weeks in advance. Please be sure to tell your Recruiter your company is participating in the Corporate Cup Challenge.
- The Coordinator should print an official sign in sheet and ask donors to sign before their donation. Keep this sheet for any employees who wish to donate at a neighborhood donor room. See instructions for donating at a neighborhood donor room.
- Employees unable to donate at their blood drive can schedule an appointment to donate at a neighborhood donor room. See instructions for donating at a neighborhood donor room.
*San Antonio Sports will provide the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center a list of all participating companies. After May 11, STBTC will tally the total number of donors between March 1 and May 11 for each company. STBTC will provide the totals for each company to San Antonio Sports.
Donating at a Neighborhood Donor Room**:
- If a participating company cannot host a blood drive, the employer can have individuals schedule appointments to donate at one of six neighborhood donor rooms. Visit southtexasblood.org/donatingforlife to learn how to schedule an appointment online or call 210-731-5590.
- The company should still designate a Blood Drive Coordinator to keep a list of names of employees who wish to donate blood. (Download an official sign in sheet here.)
- If an individual has scheduled an appointment to donate, the individual should contact the Coordinator prior to his donation date to be added to his/her sign in list.
- The Coordinator will be responsible for sending STBTC their list of donor names so that STBTC can verify the list. Click here to email your official sign in sheet.
